All FRANCK & FISCHER fabric toys and interior products are made from organic cotton certified in accordance with the officially recognized standards. Only a very small part – approx. 5% – of the world’s production of cotton is organic. Organic cotton is more expensive to produce than the conventional cotton, because it is grown without synthetic pesticides and insecticide. It requires specialized care to control pests and weeds. The total costs for labour, controlled production and certification, lead to higher overall cost of organic cotton fabric and as a result, products made from organic cotton often cost a little more.
The official standards of certification ensure that for certified organic cotton, the whole supply chain is certified, and this gives you a gurantee that the whole production chain for the fabric: the cotton seed, plant, the harvested cotton, the yarn, weaving and dye is organic. Only environmentally friendly dyes are used in this production, and all suppliers and processes are continuously supervised and controlled supervised and controlled.
The great value and advantage of organic production is that the cotton is chemical-free. This is good for the environment and most importantly, safer for children and adults using products made from organic cotton.
We only use FSC-certified birch or beech wood for our wooden products made in Romania. The FSC-certification guarantees that wood is sourced from forests that are managed responsibly. Responsible forest management reduces deforestation, preserves biological diversity of the forest and benefits the lives of local people and workers. Similarly, all wooden products are painted with environmentally friendly lacquer.
We only use filling from corn fibre or recycled polyester. The corn fibre filling is biodegradable. It is produced from the corn plant which is a sustainable resource. The polyester is from recycled plastic bottles. The material is certified and without harmful substances.
The colour and print on our fabric toys and interior products are from environmentally friendly dyes. Usually, natural dye on cotton fabric is not quite as durable as compared to synthetic print on polyester. Therefore, with time, the colours can fade a little.
