MATERIALS AND DYES:
All FRANCK & FISCHER fabric toys and interior products are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton.
Only a very small part of the world’s production of cotton is organic, approx 5%. The organic cotton is more expensive to produce than the conventional cotton, as yield is only about half, and together with costs for controlling the production and the certification, the cost of the fabric is high, so the organic products will also cost more.
The great advantage of organic production is that the cotton is manufactured without the use of pesticides, in particular insecticides that can be very toxic, and result in serious damage to the environment and the people using them.
The GOTS-certification gives you a guarantee that the whole production chain for the fabric: the cotton plant seed, the harvested cotton, the yarn, weaving and dye is organic. Only environmentally friendly dyes are used in this production, and all suppliers and processes are continuously supervised and controlled by GOTS.
Dye and print with environmentally friendly dyes on cotton is in general not quite as durable as if you print on polyester, and the colours can fade a little over time.
Filling is either from recycled polyester or corn fibre. The polyester is manufactured from plastic bottles. The material is certified and without any harmful substances. The corn fibre filling is biodegradable, it is made from the corn plant which is a sustainable ressource.
All FRANCK & FISCHER’s textile products are manufactured in the far East. Each product is carefully handmade with great precision, to give the product the right look and quality. This means high demands on the skills of the people sewing and making our crochet products, so we cherish the very good relation we have with our suppliers.
FRANCK & FISCHER has a close and personal relationship with our suppliers, and we visit them on a regular basis to to maintain the good cooperation, and ensure that we keep the high quality of our products. Most suppliers are either GOTS-certified and/or certified by SEDEX, and thus live up high standards regarding working conditions, working hours and minimum wages.
All toys from FRANCK & FISCHER live up to European CE-standards, so that we have the best guarantee that our products are safe for the children using them.
INTERIOR PRODUCTS FROM INDIA:
India is the biggest producer of certified organic cotton, and this is also where we produce our organic cotton products for kids and nursery. Most products are hand-printed, so you can find small deviations in print and colours.
Our suppliers are certified by GOTS and SEDEX.
FABRIC TOYS FROM SRI LANKA:
All fabric toys are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton shipped over from India. Manufacture is very difficult, it demands great skill and precision to sew these toys, they are made from many parts that all have to fit perfectly together. The supplier is certified by GOTS and SEDEX.
CROCHET TOYS FROM THE NORTH OF CHINA:
All our crochet products are made from GOTS-certified organic yarn. Each product is hand-made by our crochet ladies. Most of them choose to work from home, others go to the factory where they both crochet and pack the finished products. China is changing fast, and the big cities offer education and jobs you will not find in the more rural areas. It makes it difficult to recruit younger women to learn the art of crochet. It takes many years to reach the highest skill level, but the advantage for the women is, that they can stay in the local area, they have a flexible job and a stabel income without moving away from the family.
BAGS FROM THE SOUTH OF CHINA:
All bags are made of heavy canvas made from a mix of cotton and polyester. The fabric is very durable and water repellent. The bags are REACH tested so we can be sure they are without PVC and phthalates. Our supplier is SEDEX certified.
Our wooden products are for a small part coming from China, the largest part is from Rumania where we can produce in FSC-certified birch or beech. The FSC-certification ensures that the wood is manufactured in a sustainable way, taking into account environmental factors like reforestation, working conditions for the employees etc. All wooden products are painted with environmentally friendly lacquer.
